Dragonphoenix InnPrivate Commission, Athens, GR
August 2019

In this private commission, the goal was to create a new space for a board game café in Athens. A space which reflects the passion of the owner for games and human connection.

The previous layout was unclear and impractical. Rearranging some walls created a well-defined main hall, a smaller private room on one side and the service/restroom area on the other. The installations were also modified to suit the new requirements, and custom-made furniture were designed for the space. The space is dominated by two elements. The innkeeper’s bar and the long shelf system that covers the biggest part of the walls. This way, the board games are in full display, with easy access to the players. On top of that, they give the space a playful attitude and provide an immersive feeling.
Games are all about stories. And this is evident throughout the café. Several “stories” unfold in every corner. The “magic window” to another world, at the right of the entrance, the “ gate” at the far end of the main hall which hides mysteries and awaits the customers, the secret “passage” of a hidden door, the travelers’ resting area with the sofa, and of course the large service bar, the heart of the Dragon phoenix Inn.
